Amber Mountains National Park One Day Trip from Diego Suarez ("Mouse Lemur Mountains")
35 km from the city is Montagne d'Ambre, the first National Park of Madagascar, with its dense forest, waterfalls, rich flora and fauna.
We include a trip to the Windsor Castle, a former watchtower fortified by the Vichy forces and later taken over by the English, which opens onto a superb view of the history and landscape of the surroundings.
The Amber Mountains Park has some unique (endemic) insects, reptiles, and birds here that, if you have patience and luck, can be spotted. They are also the oldest park on the island.
This is also one of the natural homes of the aye aye, the "mouse lemur," which looks a bit like an alien, and moves around at night!
This is possible as a cruise ship tour from Antsiranana (Diego-Suarez) if you have 8 hours of time.
